Typically a multi-branched tree, the Heritage River Birch can be trained to a single-trunk. In the wild, it is found almost exclusively on river banks and can tolerate rather wet conditions and is generally without problems. Used as a shade or speciman tree, its bark is quite lovely and is especially beautiful in the winter. They can grow about 30 inches or more each year in USDA hardiness zone 7. It has a narrow, pyramidal to oval crown when young, spreading wider and becoming more oval with age. It has scaly, beige or creamy white bark, which remains an attractive pinkish-white for a longer period of time than the species. Grow in moist, well-drained soil with access to water during hottest times of the year.
