This gorgeous broadleaf evergreen, related to witch hazel, grows 10 to 12 feet tall with an equal spread with a loose, oval to rounded form. It's densely cloaked in leathery, pointed, and dropping lustrous dark green leaves that are 2 to 4 inches long. In late winter and early spring, small, yellow flowers with long red anthers blossom, bringing a bright color display to the thawing garden. Plant in part shade to full sun in average, well drained soil. Used as an ornamental tree, for screening, in mass plantings, or as an informal hedge.
