Woods Rose is a native found more often on the eastern slopes of the Cascades. It has smaller flowers then the Nootka or Rugosa species, but they are clustered and showy. Each blossom has five pink to dark rose petals around a thicket of yellow stamens and pistils. Its hips are bright red and round. Its height and spread are variable, but usually about 3-5 ft. This is a charming plant, a good wildlife species. Use in hedgerows, on steep hillsides, at woodland edges. It enjoys good-drainage, some moisture, and sun or light shade, but is easy to grow.
