Red Flowering Currant is probably the best known of the ornamental currants. It has upright growth, 3-9 feet tall, with maple-like leaves, 2 ½" wide. Deep pink to red fuchsia-like flowers in drooping, 2-6" clusters are delightful for a long time in spring. Fruits are black with a white bloom, not particularly showy or palatable. Place this where its cheerful and elegant blossoms can be enjoyed, as in a mixed shrub border or the back of a perennial bed. It grows best in reasonably fertile, well-drained, moist soil in light shade.
Zones: 5 to 7
