Shumard Red Oak, grows moderately fast, to forty or fifty feet, with a rounded head. Its fall color is as good as any, rich reds, oranges and golds. Leaves have needle-tipped lobes, are 4-8 inches long. A handsome tree, it is particularly valuable for its adaptability. It grows in clay, loam or sand, in moist or dry conditions. The Shumard Oak makes a good street tree, or a large shade tree.
