A deciduous tree, broad and spreading with age, The Chinese Pistache has a short trunk. It is grown primarily for its glossy, dark green foliage which flames into deep, brilliant red and oranges in autumn. This display of color can be relied on even when the fall is hot and extended. Reaching about twenty-five feet in height, with nearly as much spread, it has a dense, oval crown, and is a good shade or street tree. Leaves are compound, glossy green, with a rather fine texture. Inconspicuous flowers develop into yellow, then red seed pods which turn blue! Wildlife love them. The Chinese Pistache is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, accepting lawn watering, but also doing well in drought and poor soils. Be sure it has good drainage and full sun.
