Found above 4,000 feet in the Cascades and other inland mountains, this species likes a cold, wet environment and is shade tolerant. Conical with rather short branches, it is slender and lush. While it reaches 120ft in the wild, It is much shorter, up to 30-50ft, in cultivation. Give it a specimen location, with room to grow, or use it for a woodland background. While it prefers moist soil, it is fairly drought tolerant when established. Give it good drainage and sun or light shade.
