Creeping Oregon Grape has rounded leaflets, usually 5-7, and grows 12-24" high. It is a useful middle size, with a softer texture than its larger relatives and more sun tolerance than the Longleaf species. This Oregon Grape has the same cheerful bloom and berries as the other Mahonias, but the leaves are more rounded. It works well as a low hedge, in a mixed border, or in a woodland setting. This hardy native deserves wider use. Drought tolerant once established, it grows better in well-drained soil, in light shade, with occasional water.
Zones: 3 to 8
