This handsome pyramidal tree, 45-75ft., is well known for its dramatic fall foliage. Maple-like leaves, pleasantly green in summer, turn shades of orange, red, purple and gold in the late fall, last into November. Good branching structure and corky, furrowed bark provide winter textural interest. Inconspicuous flowers ripen to spiky, woody globes that hang on the tree a long time. Watch out for bare feet when they drop! The fast-growing Sweetgum is best planted while small, in fertile, well drained, but moist soil, in full sun for best color.
