Royal Purple lives up to its name, with rich purple leaves and even purple smoke puffs. It is slightly smaller than the green form, 10-15 feet, and reacts well to pruning. It can be cut clear to the ground (once established), and will send out arching stems with large, bright leaves. Fall color is excellent, too, with deep red tones in the purple. For all its beauty, this one doesn't need pampering. In fact, it will perform best in hot, not too fertile (but well-drained) soils, full sun, and little water once its roots are established.
