Native to the eastern slopes of the Cascades and to the Rockies, the Water Birch provides a good form for habitat and aesthetic considerations. Its usual maximum height is 10-12ft, although it can grow a bit taller. Bark is smooth, shiny, toasty brown to cherry red. It has a clumping habit, but can be shrubby if allowed to develop that way.
