The October Glory Red Maple is an excellent, fast-growing, low-maintenance choice as a shade or street tree, with outstanding fall color. Reaching 40-50ft with a spread of 30-40ft., it can be planted in full sun to part shade in medium to wet areas, but doesn't do as well in dry soil. October Glory Red Maple produces red blooms in March, which mature to red-tinged samaras up to 1½" long. Shiny, dark-green leaves with up to five lobes grow as wide as 6in. across, and have colorful red stems. Leaves retain their green color well into fall, then become brilliant flame red to orange most years. Its relatively narrow form (for a maple) makes it a logical choice for areas with limited room.
