Native Plants
A Field of Lupine
A Field of Lupine

Native plants are those that have evolved over time in an area. They have adapted to the climate, soils, and elevations, of the region, as well as the various plant viruses, fungi, and insects.

They attract pollinating birds and insects, seed-dispersing birds and other animals, and provide the seeds, fruits, nesting sites and cover local wildlife need.

Our Northwest natives are noted for their beauty, colors, forms and textures that are pleasing in themselves, and provide the characteristic aesthetic of our BakerCypress region.

Usually, native plants require minimum maintenance once established, if given the right conditions.

How do we determine which to call native plants? Native could mean those plants we find on our own hillside. Or maybe natives are those that grow anywhere in Oregon?

Even when we limit our definition of native, we find a wide variation of ecosystems. We've tried to compromise between too broad and too narrow, limiting ourselves to plants that grow within a hundred mile radius of our location. IncenseCedar

Thus we look at plants of the nearby coast, the Mediterranean climate of the Rogue Valley, parts of the Cascades, into the more arid east side, and include the excitingly diverse botanical region of the Siskiyou Mountains.

We are always trying to increase our range of native plants, growing mostly the trees and shrubs of the area. If you are looking for a particular plant, let us know.
